This makes me happy, so I thought I'd share. It's my painting. The first one this year I'm actually proud of. Yeah okay so I've never painted before now... I'm finally feeling pretty happy about the results. I'm far from done, but yeah. It's a still life. I'm way too lazy to show you the original picture, so use your imagination.

Take on me... Take me on! )

I feel like JD. I always want what I can't have. And if I get it? .....

Damn car.

We had auditions for Girls of the Garden Club today (which Kirin saved me for; thanks again). I just got home... I'm really mad at myself, actually. I don't believe my audition went as well as it could have. I let the whole "I'm sick and don't want to be in school" attitude kind of take over me and, in part, I believe it brought down my audition. I'm not very happy with myself for that one. I'm just crossing my fingers that I got in. But the good news? My dad dropped my car off for me and it STARTED with no problem and didn't cut off at all!

Faja is going to the Mac Store in Richmond today. I'm crossing my fingers. Today is when he decides whether we get a Mac or not. (Whether we buy it online or at the store, I'm not sure.) I have nothing better to do than update a lot. I'm trying to stay away from the TV but damn it all if it's not working...

Good thing you're always prepared, D-Minus Ass.

I've been suffering from a constant up-and-down fever since about fifth period Thursday. I hate being sick, especially when I'm supposed to go watch a band play tomorrow night in Harrisonburg. The only good things to come out of this? I have successfully watched the complete first season of Home Improvement, worked through Scrubs season three, caught some mad Law & Order (most of which I'd already seen), got Miso Soup made for me (and Britni), gotten a surprise chocolate bar with my borrowed Microsoft Office disks (I can finally do that paper), and got checked up on. The four day weekend helps, too. Not so bad, really. At least I have reason to be lazy right now♥

EDIT: Oh shit, kids. Sayward also got Subway for dinner. Score!!!

I think Sayward is getting a Mac. I'm excited, of course, but this means that I have to (yet again) somehow transfer my music collection, pictures, and find a Photoshop (illegal much?) program that will function with the Mac. Any computer nerds out there? :\

It's not just about the gay kids. It's about the straight kids, too. It's about the people who want to participate. Who want to speak up and make a difference. It's for all the kids, regardless of sexual orientation, who recognize this new movement and who are interested in ending the generational discrimination that is still being passed down. This is not just about Gay and Lesbian students who are trying to find others like them.

This is about everyone.

As the straight co-president and founder of the GSA at our [E.C. Glass] high school, I think I can speak for the other members of this movement. I believe I can speak for the 97% of our Gay-Straight Alliance that identifies as heterosexual. Most of all, I believe that my voice (along with the voice of other allies) can make a different, and that our voices need be heard because [sadly] society views this battle in black and white. We are the grey scale that broadens this movement.

HB 1727, the opt-in/out bill (or "GSA bill" as it has been called) which I have been fighting against has been defeated, resurrected, and reinvented. It started out as an opt-in program (one that would require a signed permission slip from a parent/legal guardian in order for a student to join a club), but it failed in full committee 9-9. It was reborn as a mandatory opt-out program (one that would give parents/legal guardians the right to mark off what clubs they did not want their children participating in), and although I do not know the details, it was also not successful. It's third and final make up is a combination of both. The new HB 1727 would require schools systems to enforce an opt-in or opt-out program. It would be the schools systems choice. On February 9th [2007] it passed through the Virginia House of Delegates. Either way, I believe it will hurt not only GSA's across Virginia, but also other non-curriculum related clubs. My focus, however, lingers on the impact this will have on the Gay-Straight Alliance (not only at my school, but at others).

First of all, most people are unclear on what exactly the mission of a GSA is. So not to write a novel, it's basically a club surrounding a group of people who are in support of ending the harassment of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Trangender [GLBT] students in schools, and to also create a safe space for students experiencing troubles/changes with their sexuality, gender identity, or perceived sexual orientation. This could include support and advice in coming out to a parent or legal guardian, or ways to speak out against bullying. Contrary to popular belief, GSA's do not exist as a "gay club" or to "recruit members" to become homosexual, or even to advertise the homosexual lifestyle. We don't even advocate for pro-gay legislation. We exist in favor of this generation's movement to end discrimination.

Like a newspaper, the media tends to project things in black and white. You hear the "in favor" side, and you hear the "against" side. In favor of HB 1727? Peoples and organizations a lot like "focus on the family," which tend to be projected as very right-wing and religion-oriented. Against HB 1727? The younger and older members of the GLBT community. True, we had members of school boards speak out against HB 1727, but that does stray away from the strict topic of GSA's. There is one side to the student club's argument that's generally left unturned.

Us.

The heterosexual identified students that are aiding in this movement. Many people who don't care to know the details of what's going on simply see "the gay kids." They see the one argument they were unhappy with in the first place. They close their mind to this war and feel that they are only battling homosexuality as a whole, as if GLBT-identified peoples are the only ones they are up against. Well, they're wrong, and we need to let them know that. We need to let them know that a GSA is not a "gay club." They need to understand that this movement has a vast number of heterosexual supporters, who are just as ready as I am to strap on the boots and fight to the finish. After all, what movement would have gotten anywhere without it's supporters? How would the women have gained their rights if it weren't for the men who stood beside them? Who listened and supported them? The Civil Rights movement, as well. All movements need a heart, but they also need the veins to carry the message forward.

I am one of those veins and I don't believe in simply standing on the sidelines. I trust and believe in my voice, and the voices of others. I believe in youth! Enraged and underage? Then DO something about it! Any and all ages; young and old; everyone can make a difference. Gay or straight, SPEAK UP! Educate yourself. Find your passion. Keep the movement marching forward. Let our opponents know that they are up against people from all sides of the spectrum.

Let them know that the ALLIES are involved and will stand strong.

Wow. Prom just got complicated.

Jess has been convinced that I should go with Yoshi (which is pseudo-happening). I was simply going to take one of my underclassman friends and just go in a big group, but...

Britni was going to bring her cousin, Katrina, from Pennsylvania. I thought maybe it would be nice to see if my cousin, Josh (Brookville kid) wanted to join in on our fun. So I asked him to go. Since he's a freak, he wants to go, but refuses to go with me. He thinks it's "too weird" to share a ticket with me? Whatever. So, BRITNI is now taking my cousin, and I am taking Britni's cousin Trina. And Jess, to give in to you, Yoshi is to be the unofficial date of Sayward (not that he knows this yet). I still need to get someone to bring Christina...

On another note: SAYWARD HAS A VALENTINE! WOO! It's....Britni. We figured we may as well make ourselves feel special. :'D Either way, we both get chocolate, which makes everyone happy.

OH OH AND ONE OTHER THING! My car was looked at (for the millionth time) down at this garage, and they fixed two things. One was the oil leak (it won't smell anymore!), and the second was the stutter. The stutter problem COULD be what's been making it bog down, too...but we won't know until tomorrow morning when we go to pick it up. If everything is running nicely (or nicer), Faja will finally put the door panels back on. I'm on my way to having a functioning car, people. Be excited.

I'm upset. Sayward Lawrence (the band) has officially broken up. Completely. They're not even playing their final show. They've had a massive falling out and two of the members refuse to get on a stage with the third but... I still might go up to Harrisonburg and watch the other bands play, and at least see the guys in the band.

(To clear a few things up, there is a band named after me based in Harrisonburg... Or, there was. If you want to hear them, you can go to myspace.com/saywardlawrence and give them a listen. They were great guys.)

I'm pretty excited about the show, regardless, and meeting some people in the bands that they normally play with. It's on the 17th, in Harrisonburg so... I'm excited, for the millionth time.

EDIT:
Here are the lyrics (once again) and the song titles/artists. Thanks to those who guessed right. ♥

Hey boys and girls, want to know why my username is [info]precincts? Simple answer, it goes along with my cop/detective obsession, but the specifics? Can anyone guess? (AKA Emily Gur can you tell the world why? I'm guessing you'd be the only one to know.)

WOW. I'm on an update roll, even if they're petty.♥

I got really bored, boys and girls. So here.

Step 1: Put your MP3 player/iPod/iTunes on random.
Step 2: Post the first a line from the first 25 songs that play.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Step 5: No cheating.

Before I get to the lyrics, if to-be-mention parties choose to participate, I'm predicting your songs.
Kirin: 6, 10, 14, 17, 19, 23, 24
Jess: 8, 13, 16, 17, 21
Stephi: 1, 5, 9, 12, 14, 18
Emily: 4, 5, 7, 8, 22, 25
Those are just who popped in to my head when I heard the song, and I'm assuming you'll get them...

My music taste is too predictable... )

I have been sabotaged! Not really... I agreed to go eat sushi with Yoshi. I've tried it before (one from Kroger and one from Osaka's), but really I'm very virgin to the whole idea/concept/taste. The catch? I hate seafood. I don't eat it. Now I know that sushi is not all fish, etc. So I went, and I ate. I still can't figure out what I think about it, but...

He told me it was fish. They both told me it was fish. Yoshi and this random man told me it was like a sweet fish. Although they didn't tell me what kind... And I ate it. It was gross and tasted like lake water. Then, five minutes later, what does he say?

"That's eel."

You know, even if he had told me from the beginning, I still would have tried it. But... I'm so grossed out, yet proud of myself at the same time. I'll never eat it again...but I decided that before I found out what it really was. I liked the shrimp things, though, and the California roll.

Wow. Politics never cease to amaze me. Now that I've seen it a little more close up, I realize that all that talk of "every politician being corrupted" is totally and completely true. I could feel the evil. (Okay, not all of them, but enough of them...)
